Former child actor Matt Prokop was reportedly taken into custody in Texas on Christmas Eve following an arrest made on a charge of possession of child pornography and four misdemeanour charges.
The former child star (35), best known for his role in Disney's High School Musical 3, was charged with aggravated assault of a family member with a weapon and second-degree felony possession of child pornography, among other charges.
It remains unclear when he will appear in court to face the charges, per The Mirror.
His recent arrest follows allegations of abuse from his ex-girlfriend, Modern Family actor Sarah Hyland.
The pair appeared alongside each other in 2011's Geek Charming. Hyland accused Prokop of verbal and physical abuse throughout their five-year relationship, according to People.
Hyland previously claimed that Prokop has reportedly slammed her into a vehicle and choked her during an argument, as seen in court filings that were obtained by the publication. It's believed Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen intervened and helped Hyland end her abusive relationship with Prokop.
Sarah Hyland was granted a restraining order against Prokop.
Bowen's intervention allegedly led to Prokop threatening to kill Hyland's dog and burn her house down, as per her restraining order filing.
Prokop was required to stay 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog at all times following the assault claims.
Hyland stated in the documents at the time: "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life."
Back in 2024, Hyland opened up to Variety about the importance of speaking out: "For thousands of years now, we didn’t talk about it. The community hasn’t shared enough, I believe.
"And I feel that if we talk about it more, more women – and men and just human beings in general in abusive relationships – will feel more comfortable to be able to talk about it with their loved ones instead of letting their abuser isolate them from everyone, which is the first thing that they do, so that you don’t have that community."
Some may also know Prokop from appearances in Hannah Montana, The Office, Good Luck Charlie, and Modern Family.
