The doctor was accused of charging for consultations in New York, at which point he would refer them to his clinic in the Dominican Republic for discount surgeries. Many women were allegedly left disfigured.
"Her exact words to me were, 'you're gonna love Dr Cabral's work,'" Curtis remembered his wife saying. "I didn't care one way or another. I accepted my wife the way that she was."
However after receiving the fat transfer, Bowser-Williams suffered an enormous stroke with doctors able to briefly bring her out of a "medically induced coma" to unlock her phone.
"That's how she was able to get in touch with me," Curtis explained, adding that her surgeon told him the stroke had "swallowed her brain."
Unfortunately, Curtis was unable to make it to the Dominican Republic before his wife of 26-years died.
"Everybody is distraught. She was the heart, the lifeline of the family. The heartbeat," he said.
Cabral's clinic paid for travel and funeral expenses - but no formal investigation is underway.
