The parents of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was fatally shot by Alec Baldwin in October, are reportedly still stranded in Kyiv.

In a tweet, Matt Hutchins, Halyna’s widow, wrote that her Ukrainian-born parents Olga and Anatoly Androsovych were still in the Ukrainian capital because it was too dangerous to travel, NPR reports.

He wrote: “Ukrainian refugees need humanitarian corridors. Halyna’s family is trapped in Kyiv because of the danger of travel.”

He added that his wife’s sister Svetlana managed to escape to Romania alongside her three-year-old daughter and will “continue onward to western Europe.”

But Halyna’s parents had “stayed in Kyiv to prepare for the worst,” with her mother still “working as nurse at the hospital where has worked for 30+ years.”

Along with his pleas for humanitarian corridors to be set up, Hutchins also called for a no-fly zone to be set up over Ukraine and for China to “step up and do what NATO cannot.”

He said there needs to be “Chinese intervention to guarantee both sides will stay out of the sky and not use rocket bombardment of ground forces would boost China’s global standing and save face for Vladimir Putin.”

His late wife was born in in 1979 in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, and spent much of her childhood on a Soviet naval base.

After studying journalism at Kyiv National University, Halyna left Ukraine and in 2015 she graduated from the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles. She kept her Ukrainian citizenship despite moving to the United States and marrying Matt, a U.S. citizen.

Together the couple had a son, Andros, who is now nine-years-old.

Since his wife’s tragic death, Hutchins has decided to sue Baldwin and the other producers on the set of Rust.

Halyna had been working on the film when she was shot by Baldwin as he rehearsed a scene by drawing a gun across his chest.

Baldwin claims he did not know the gun had live ammunition in it, and that he “never pulled the trigger” on the gun.
