Freddie Flintoff injuries confirmed

The cricket legend was involved in a high-speed crash while filming for Top Gear on Tuesday

Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff broke his rib and suffered facial injuries in a crash he suffered whilst filming a segment for a new series of Top Gear.

A relative of the Top Gear host said today that the star had suffered a cut face and a broken rib in the crash, which his son labelled as “pretty nasty.”

They said that his wife Rachael had left the family home in Altrincham and travelled to the hospital yesterday when she was told of the accident, the Mail reports.

The England cricket legend was behind the wheel while shooting an episode of the BBC motoring show at at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, and was reviewing a car when the accident happened.

His 16-year-old son, Corey, revealed that his family were left in understandable “shock” and that his mother had rushed to be beside the former cricketer’s bedside in hospital.

Corey said: “He’s OK. I’m not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.

“It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he’s going to be OK.”

On Tuesday evening, the BBC confirmed that Flintoff had been airlifted to hospital after being involved in a car crash during filming for the latest series of Top Gear.

A spokesperson for the BBC told MailOnline: “Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track – with crew medics attending the scene immediately. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.”

Sources told The Sun: “All the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming too. Freddie was taken to hospital by air ambulance shortly afterwards.

“Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering.”

Flintoff was behind the wheel filming when the incident occurred, seeing on-site medics at the venue near Cranleigh rush to his aid.

His co-star Chris Harris, who presents the show alongside Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness, was also at the Top Gear test track.
