A former Manchester United player has been handed a four-month suspended prison sentence after being pulled over for 'dangerous driving'.
The incident occurred in Monaco last August while the player was on holiday. He visited two nightclubs before getting behind the wheel of his Rolls Royce.
After being pulled over by the police in the early hours of the morning, a breathalyser showed he had a blood alcohol level of 1.01 per millilitre.
Memphis Depay's case came to court in Monaco on Wednesday where he was given a four-month suspended sentence, a €9,000 (£7,500) fine and a two-year driving ban.
Depay, who now plays for Brazilian side Corinthians, issued an apology on Instagram after his sentence was delivered.
The 30-year-old said: "I would like to apologise here. Last summer, during my vacation in Monaco, I made a mistake and decided to drive home after having a drink in a restaurant. I should have gotten into a taxi instead, but I didn't.
"That's why I want to apologise and take full responsibility for my actions. 2024 was a year of lessons and I will definitely learn from this. In 2025, we will do better."
Depay played for the red Devils between 2015 and 2017, making 53 appearances after being signed by Louis van Gaal.
Despite only scoring seven goals, the Dutch international was a part of the United squad who won the FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup.
He departed to join Lyon in 2017 before having stints with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
