Flight attendant dies after plane cabin fills with smoke during emergency landing

Flight LX1885, which took place on December 23rd, took off from Bucharest, Romania, and was headed for Zurich, Switzerland.

However, due to problems with the engine, the Airbus A220-300 was forced into an emergency landing at Graz Airport in Austria.

Initial investigations suggest that one of the engines suffered a technical defect, leading to the cabin and cockpit filling with smoke.

Swiss also said that their investigations were looking at the use of protective breathing equipment for the crew.

All 74 passengers and crew were evacuated from the plane, but at least a dozen required medical care following the flight.

One member of the cabin crew, a young man, was hospitalised, and put into intensive care, but sadly died on Monday.

Jens Fehlinger, CEO of Swiss International Airlines, said they are 'deeply shocked' by his death.

"The news leaves us deeply saddened and stunned. Our thoughts are with the young man’s relatives, whose pain must be boundless," he said in a statement.

The airline said they are not providing further details out of respect for his grieving family.
