Flávio Bolsonaro has denied fleeing Brazil after effectively fleeing Brazil.
The Brazilian Senator landed in Miami in the US after losing the presidential election on Sunday to Lula.
"It was never my intention to leave my homeland, but I know exactly where this is heading," he said.
"I departed from a regime of exception so that I could become the leader my people deserve."
"I did not flee Brazil; I left for the sake of Brazil," he said in a statement.
Bolsonaro is the subject of a criminal investigation concerning suspected money laundering and corruption.
With Trump one of his biggest supporters, the US has provided visas to Bolsonaro and his family, after Brazil cancelled his passports.
Meanwhile, the newly re-elected President Lula said : "Those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear".
