Fan detained by police after ‘England’ is painted onto Russian statue

A fan has been detained by Russian police after vandalising a statue of former Spartak Moscow Fyodor Cherenkov

Cherenkov, a two-time Soviet footballer of the year winner, has a statue erected in his honour outside the Spartak stadium where England defeated Colombia on penalties to advance to the World Cup quarter-finals.
