Family terrified after spotting ominous detail in beach snap

They alerted the local coastguard after noticing the detail

A family were left terrified after noticing an ominous detail in the background of a seemingly innocuous beach photo.

After having spent the day at Carrum Beach in Melbourne, Australia, they returned home and glanced back at the pictures they’d got.

It was only then that they noticed a chilling detail in the photo below, prompting them to get in touch with the local marine search and rescue unit, Chelsea SES, for help.

If you look closely, you can see what appears to be a shark fin lurking in the shallows of the sea.

The family got in touch with Chelsea SES for information on whether it was indeed a shark sighting or if it was something far less dangerous.

Sharing the snap in a post on Facebook, the unit said: “Yesterday we posted about a shark sighting, just off the beach, between Bonbeach and Chelsea.

“Well later, we received a message from a family, who follow our page, who were at Carrum Beach, earlier in the morning.

“It was their little one’s first visit to the beach, and the gentleman’s partner grabbed a couple of snaps to record the day.

The post concluded: “Later, when they got home, and looked at the pictures, they noticed something in the shallow water, just behind them, was this our shark?”

The post prompted debate over the likelihood that the ‘fin’ was indeed a shark, with some questioning whether one would be able to come that close to shore.

One person wrote: “Looks a bit shallow for a shark that would have a fin that size judging by where the dog and guy to the left is standing. Wouldn’t the other guy behind them have noticed?”

Another added: “Couldn’t be a very big one, given the size of the dog and the depth of the water.”

A third commented that “it can’t be discounted” as a shark sighting, but added that it was “highly unlikely a shark cruising in the shallows would not be seen and those in the photo not aware.”
