Every prediction The Simpsons got right in 2025

Showrunner Matt Selman told People that ‘if you study history and math, it would be literally impossible for us not to predict things'.

With that said, and with the fact it is New Year's Eve, here is every prediction the Simpsons got right in 2025:

The increasing threat of AI

In the episode 'Itchy & Scratchy Land', released in 1994, the Simpson family are seen trying to escape encroaching, malfunctioning robots who started attacking humans.

Yikes.

Effects of climate change

2025 has unfortunately been another year of rising temperatures, flash flooding, and unpredictable weather events, and even though this has become the norm now, 15 years ago it was a lot less common - and milder.

A 2009 episode entitled 'The Good, the Sad, and the Drugly' sees Lisa passionately speak to her classmates about global warming after finding articles online predicting that it will result in the Springfield being completely wiped out.

Publicity astronauts

One of the most insane pop culture moments of the year came in the form of the Blue Origin space mission, which saw Katy Perry, Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King, Amanda Nguyen, Kerianne Flynn, and Aisha Bowe head to space.

The Simpsons did not predict the random line-up of women who made it into orbit, however they did anticipate the concept of 'space tourism' and the promotion of intergalactic travel. 

In the 1994 episode 'Deep Space Homer', NASA sends Homer into space to help boost public interest, suggesting that anyone can become an astronaut for the sake of advertisement.

Food trends

While veggie and vegan food is widely common in 2025, back in 1995 it was a something of a mythical, odd diet - however not for Lisa Simpson.

'Lisa the Vegetarian', a mid-nineties episode sees Lisa embark on her vegetarian joruney after becoming attached to a lamb whie visiting a petting zoo.

The 8-year-old confused her friends and family when she began refusing to eat meat - she was well ahead of the trend!
