He’s shaking things up
Lee Carsley is expected to hand a shock start to young England star in his first home game as interim manager tonight.
Carsley managed England to an impressive 2-0 victory over Ireland in his first game in charge on Saturday in the Nations League.
Declan Rice and Jack Grealish, who both played for Ireland at youth level, scored for England in the first half of that game.
Tonight, the Three Lions will host Finland at Wembley Stadium as they resume their Nations League campaign.
According to The Daily Mail, leaked team news suggests that Carsley is going to field an experimental line-up featuring Rico Lewis who has just one senior cap to his name.
The Manchester City defender, who can also play in midfield, is expected to start at left-back ahead of Levi Colwill.
John Stones and Ezri Konsa are expected to be given the nod ahead of Marc Guehi and Harry Maguire.
Meanwhile, Angel Gomes, former United academy star, is also expected to start after he impressed as a substitute at the weekend.
Gomes was one of four uncapped players named in Carsley’s first England squad.
He said: “We have to be realistic that the players that didn’t have a lot of time off in the summer, came back having maybe not played as many minutes, to expect them just to go into, especially, a game in Dublin at the tempo that we thought it would be and the physicality.”
He continued: “I didn’t want to put them in a position where if they didn’t do well, you could almost see what they didn’t do well.
“It just gave us a chance to do a bit more work with them during the week and then put them in a position… and there’s maybe four or five that needed that extra work and that extra day’s training which will hopefully help them.”
