This would be a game-changer

Elon Musk has claimed he could build a tunnel linking London and New York for £20 billion.

It isn't the first mind-boggling proposal the world's richest man has made in regards to international travel. Last month, Musk said his SpaceX rockets could transport people to any city in the world in less than an hour.

Now, he's said another of his companies could build a tunnel from London to New York - and for a much lower price than others had estimated it would cost.

In recent days, there have reports suggesting plans for a trans-Atlantic tunnel are seriously being considered by governments on both sides of the pond.

Recently, X account Daily Loud shared a post bout the idea, saying it would cost "$20 trillion" and would take "54 minutes" to travel through.

Responding to the post, Musk claimed The Boring Company - which is his infrastructure and tunnel construction business - could do it for "1000X less money."

The most famous underwater tunnel in the world is probably the Channel Tunnel between England and France, but similar projects are underway across the globe.

Germany and Denmark are currently building an 18km-tunnel beneath the Baltic Sea to connect the two nations.

Meanwhile, there have previously been proposals for a 54 mile tunnel linking Britain and Ireland.
