Edwin van der Sar was rushed to hospital in Croatia on Friday after suffering a brain haemorrhage and remains in intensive care.
The former Manchester United, Ajax and Netherlands star has been on holiday in the country.
According to reports, the ex-goalkeeper collapsed and was taken to hospital by helicopter.
The 53-year-old is said to be in the intensive care unit.
Former club Ajax posted a message on Facebook late Friday afternoon, reading: "On Friday, Edwin van der Sar has had a bleeding around his brain.
"He’s currently in hospital in the intensive care unit and is in a stable condition.
"Once there is more concrete information, an update will follow. Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you."
