EastEnders actor arrested on suspicion of child sex offence

An EastEnders actor has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of committing child sex offences.

According to The Sun, the man, from London, has been released on bail while police continue their enquiries.

He can not be named for legal reasons.

The man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of engaging in sexual communications with a child.

The Sun said the actor is a veteran of the TV industry and regularly posts about his roles.

It reported that the man often plays a police officer or official figures on EastEnders and has previously shared photos of himself on set.

Police confirmed the man’s arrest saying: “On Sunday, 23 April a man was arrested at an address in the vicinity of Elthorne Road, N19 on suspicion of engaging in sexual communications with a child.

“He was taken into police custody and has since been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in late June.”

Police added that enquiries into “the circumstances continue”.

The suspected offence, sexual communication with a child, is an either-way offence, meaning the case can be heard in a Magistrates’ or Crown Court and carries a maximum prison sentence of two years. That means the perpetrator can be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

EastEnders, Set in the fictional borough of Walford in the East End of London, has been on air since 1985 and has aired 6688 episodes.
