However, with the match still scoreless at half-time, River's players were pepper-sprayed as they returned to the pitch.
The video below shows several masked Boca fans interfering with the tunnel before the players emerge rubbing their eyes.
The game was suspended with riot police forming a protective tunnel to get the players off the pitch.
