Dragon’s Den star Hilary Devey has died at the age of 65, having appeared on the show back in 2011 as one of the famed Dragons.

The TV star was staying at her home in Morocco, North Africa, when she passed away on Saturday, June 12. Her agent confirmed the sad news with The Sun, who said she has been battling an unnamed illness for some time.

“I can confirm that Hilary sadly died yesterday,” a spokesperson said. “She had been ill for some time.”

Devey appeared on Dragon’s Den between 2011 and 2013 alongside Peter Jones, Theo Paphitis, Duncan Bannatyne and Deborah Meaden. Her headstrong and often to-the-point attitude won her the love of fans.

Outside of television, Devey worked as CEO and Chairman of Pall-Ex, the UK’s leading palletised freight distribution network.

She was also a huge philanthropist and became Vice President of The Carers Trust back in 2012. She was also the patron of The Stroke Association and Fresh Start – New Beginnings.

Reacting to the sad news on Twitter, one fan wrote: “Sad news. Hilary came to our school awards evening once. Such a lovely lady. RIP.”

“Oh, now this is sad…” another wrote, while a third said, “So sad to hear of the passing of @HilaryDevey today. A lovely woman with a fierce spirit. Will be sadly missed.”

This is a developing story and more information is expected to become public knowledge.
