Donald Trump has said he is 'very angry and p***ed off' with Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
This comes as President Putin called for a transitional government to be out in place in Ukraine, a moved which would effectively push out current Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
President Trump said these comments were 'not going in the right direction'.
He rarely criticises the Russian President, especially in his attempts to end the war in Ukraine.
In an early-morning phone call with NBC, the 78-year-old President said: “If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault, which it might not be, but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia."
"That would be that if you buy oil from Russia, you can't do business in the United States. There will be a 25% tariff on all oil, a 25 to 50-point tariff on all oil," he added.
Additionally, President Trump plans to speak with the Russian president again this coming week.
During his campaign trail, he had made ending the war in Ukraine a top foreign policy promise.
In the first few months of his second-term, the US President has had several meetings with Ukrainian and Russian officials.
Just last week, the two countries agreed on a partial and limited ceasefire, allowing safe navigation in the Black Sea as well as a halt on attacks on energy facilities.
