Dog stranded in Lake District rescued after three weeks

The rescue involved seven team members

The dog, Teddy, went missing on August 2 and was stranded for three weeks on a mountain in the Lake District.

Teddy disappeared on Helvellyn, which is the third-highest peak in England.

Volunteers were out searching on Friday, August 21, when they heard barking coming from a steep ravine on the slopes of the mountain.

The Keswick Mountain Rescue team were called to help on Dry Gill, after volunteers found the stuck dog.

And although he lost a considerable amount of weight, Teddy was rescued three hours later and miraculously had no obvious injuries.

Prior to being reunited with his owner and taken to the vets, Teddy was secured in a rucksack and given a small amount of food.

The rescue, which involved seven team members, took three and a half hours.

“The team are absolutely delighted to share this update, as the news of this missing dog had deeply affected so many people across our local community”, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said.

“He was given a small amount of food before being safely secured in a rucksack for the journey back down to Swirls car park”, the team added.

“A remarkable outcome after nearly three weeks on Helvellyn, and a huge well done to everyone who kept searching and never gave up on Teddy.”
