Speculation has grown this week after reports that Tom Hardy was dropped from MobLand ahead of its third season.
Now, new details are lining up very closely with previous allegations of strange on-set behaviour levied at Hardy.
Last Friday (22 May), Hardy was fired from the show MobLand, where he starred as Harry Da Souza.
This resurfaced earlier reports claiming he was frequently late to set, which allegedly frustrated MobLand co-star Helen Mirren, though she publicly denied any feud between them.
The initial report from Puck News claimed he was fired following a clash with producers, during which showrunner Jez Butterworth allegedly gave Paramount+ an ultimatum to either dismiss him or let Hardy go.
The move was a significant one for Paramount+, considering Hardy was the series’s celebrity lead.
Now, a new report from The Hollywood Reporter has elaborated on this, claiming that an insider source explained that Hardy's behaviour on set was ‘career suicide’.
The behaviour that reportedly led to Hardy’s departure occurred during production of season two, which has yet to be released. He is said to have spent hours in his trailer and refused to come to set, leaving his A-list co-stars waiting.
The THR source said: “He refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time.”
This behaviour reportedly ‘spooked’ producers, with the source adding: “He kept the cast waiting, [which is] a power play. Keeping Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager.”
Although this has not been officially confirmed, the claims align with a report last year by the Daily Mail, in which an unnamed source claimed: “He can be late to filming, and that is annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined.
“She expects better. She holds people to a high standard. She’s 80. She’s been there and seen it all.
“The behind-the-scenes crew watch it all and believes that she no longer looks as happy working on scenes with him. It has all become quite personal between them.
"It’s a fantastic show, and everyone loves working on it. It’s such a shame there is this undertone."
Hardy’s tendency for tardiness has reportedly become a recurring talking point, following a high-profile dispute with Mad Max: Fury Road co-star Charlize Theron.
On set, it was alleged that the pair got into a heated argument, with Theron asking security for help as a result.
Blood, Sweat and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, a book on the controversial film set, reported that Hardy would often show up to set hours late, which even led to Theron requesting the actor be fined $100k for 'every minute that he's held up the crew'.
The book further claims that Hardy was 'aggressive' towards Theron, leading the actress to request personal protection when on the set of the film.
She said in the book she 'didn't feel safe' and was 'scared s**tless'.
Previously, director George Miller told The Telegraph: "I think there’s a tendency in this business to use great performances as an excuse for other disruption that could be avoided."
Adding that he had to be 'coaxed out of his trailer'.
Hardy acknowledged his shortcomings on set, saying he was “in over his head,” with both actors citing the intense pressure they experienced during production.
He later responded to the allegations by saying: "What [Theron] needed was a better, perhaps more experienced partner in me. That's something that can't be faked. I'd like to think that now that I'm older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion."
