The boxing promoter, who is in his 40s and had been living in Dubai for years, was apprehended on the warrant before being picked up on a government jet that took off from the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

He is accused of being a leading figure in an organised crime group and of involvement in international drug trafficking and firearms offences.

Why the Kinahan extradition matters

The operation to bring him back to Ireland was carried out jointly with UAE officials, following a formal request from Irish authorities and a final judgment by the Dubai Court of Cassation. It marks one of the most significant extraditions of an alleged organised crime figure secured through cooperation between the two governments.

Regarded as one of the most high-profile individuals sought for prosecution in connection with transnational organised crime.

That was how Ireland’s Jim O’Callaghan and the UAE’s Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi described the man being extradited, Metro reported. He is now expected to face the Irish justice system.
