Comedy legend, Richard Lewis, has sadly died at the age of 76.

Variety report that Lewis died following a heart attack.

In a statement shared by Lewis’ publicist, his wife, Joyce Lapinsky, said she “thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time”.

Eleven months ago, Lewis announced his retirement from stand-up comedy and confirmed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

In 2021, upon returning to Curb after various health struggles, Lewis told Variety, “I’ve devoted my life to comedy and my sobriety the last almost 27 years. I’m overwhelmed with joy right now. I never learned how to keep joy in my head for more than a minute, but I’m breaking all records for my life today.”

Lewis is survived by his wife, Joyce Lapinsky.

Rest in peace to a true legend.
