Couple die just weeks apart leaving their 2 young children behind in ‘incomprehensible’ tragedy

A couple died within four weeks of each other, leaving behind their two children in a tragedy that has been labelled 'incomprehensible'. Mum-of-two Amie Walton was in hospital receiving treatment for cancer when she found her partner Chris Mills had died next to her from a ruptured stomach ulcer, at the age of 42. Exactly four weeks later, Walton passed away in Good Hope Hospital in July, at the age of 30. The couple's eight-year-old son, Harry, and six-year-old daughter, Mia, are now being cared for by Amie's mother Tracey. A fundraising page has since been set up by local shopkeeper Bal Singh to raise money for the children to give them a "good start in life." This has already raised more than £30,000. Chris's funeral was held on August 8 while Amie's took place on September 12, reports BirminghamLive. "We were all busy concentrating on helping Amie through her illness and preparing ourselves for what lay ahead when we had the massive shock of Chris passing unexpectedly, Amie was so brave and built herself up to get through it which I was so proud of her for. "Once Chris's funeral was over Amie went to her dad's for a break in Devon where she sadly passed herself a few days later. "We will continue to live on with them both in our hearts and do the best to bring up their children the best we can. Losing a parent at such a young and tender age is painful but to lose both parents is beyond devastating. "The circumstances were incomprehensible and have touched every single person. "We are coming together as collective community to do the best we can for Harry and Mia and I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to each and everyone for their support in playing an important part in the wellbeing of not only Harry and Mia but for their families too."

BirminghamLive had previously helped raise £20,000 for Amie's cancer treatment, enabling her to undergo potentially lifesaving SIRT radiotherapy privately.

But in May, she was told that the cancer had spread and she had 50 tumours in each lung.

The fundraiser set up by Singh has already managed to raise more than £30,000.
