PIC: Could this really be controller for the next Nintendo console?

Matt Tate

Some certifiably unofficial but not totally unconvincing images have surfaced online of what could potentially be the Nintendo NX controller.

The questionable pictures of the rugby ball-shaped device were posted to Reddit by a user called perkele37, and if genuine would represent a considerable departure from the design of the current Wii U controller.

Perkele37 claims that the controller is only part of the dev-kit at this stage, so could completely change, but the standout feature seems to be that there is no obvious face buttons – just two thumbsticks. That would make intricate control pretty difficult, and might indicate that the Japanese company are really targeting the casual audience.

Again, there is absolutely nothing to suggest that these pictures are any more than a (admittedly impressive) Photoshop job, but definitely have a gander and let us know what you think.

The Redditor also said that the controller has a headphone jack on the bottom panel, and features a “haptic” feedback system similar to technology found in Apple’s iPhone 6S, as opposed to more traditional rumble functionality.
