John Amos, the legendary actor best known for his roles in Coming To America, Roots, and Good Times, has died at the age of 84.
The Emmy-nominated actor died on August 21, though the news of his death has only just been made public.
He died in Los Angeles of natural causes.
In a statement, his son KC Amos said: "It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned.
"He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold … and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
Amos received his Emmy nomination for playing the role of Toby in the 1977 miniseries Roots.
He also played the fast food restaurant manager in Coming To America who hires Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall's characters.
