The new year is here and so are the sub-zero temperatures with most of the UK thrown into the chilliest of cold plunges.
Most of the UK's major cities are enduring the bitter cold, with the mercury hitting as low as -7C in Manchester in the early hours of Monday morning.
Yellow warnings for snow and ice are in place across much of the UK.
With the cold weather looking to hang about for a few days still, many areas in England and Wales have entered eligibility for cold weather payments.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) runs a scheme to help out in these cold periods, giving £25 to qualifying households.
The payment is only triggered following a seven-day period where the average temperature is consistently below zero degrees.
An estimated 674,000 households across over 441 postcode areas can now expect a payment.
These areas are split across the UK, covering northern and southern areas of England and Wales.

If you are eligible, you will receive the payment automatically.
If you have a baby or if a child under 5 comes to live with you will need to tell Jobcentre Plus if you get Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
