Chelsea owe Raheem Sterling £70m for the remaining three years of his contract and will have to pay it out if the player leaves the club.
This has left negotiating an exit for the four-time Premier League winning winger very difficult.
The England forward has been heavily linked with Manchester United, in a rumoured swap deal for Jadon Sancho.
The player has been left out of the squad for both Chelsea matches this season and manager Enzo Maresca has made it clear Sterling is not part of his plans.
Sterling's contract runs until 2027 and is paid £17m per season, or £350k per week.
