Unfortunate timing

Canada’s Drag Race left fans shocked after tweeting that the ‘crown is up for grabs” amid serious concerns for Queen Elizabeth II’s health.

On Thursday afternoon, Buckingham Palace announced the Her Majesty was under medical supervision at Balmoral, with some members of her family by her side and others currently travelling to join them.

But in a case of unfortunate timing, the official Twitter account for Canada’s Drag Race posted a tweet about the fact that the final of season three of the show was being aired this evening.

The winner of Drag Race is crowned as the winning drag queen, so the tweet made a rather unfortunate reference.

The tweet read: “HAPPY #CanadasDragRace FINALE DAY.

“This crown is up for grabs… who is going to take it home?”

The tweet has since been deleted (Twitter)

Fans were left stunned by the post with many pointing out that the timing was not ideal.

“LOL YIKES”, wrote one, while another added: “NOT THIS HAHAHAHAHAHA.”

Others assumed the tweet must have been scheduled and hadn’t been altered following the news of the Queen’s health.

Sharing a screenshot of the tweet, one person wrote: “CHECK YOUR SCHEDULED TWEETS!!!!!”

Another said: “The fact that this tweet from Canada’s Drag Race was probably a scheduled tweet and totally accidental… I cannot.”

In a statement on Thursday, the palace said: “Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”

Her four children are believed to be by her side, with Prince William and Harry travelling to Balmoral.
