UK households are being warned to keep their windows shut, day and night, over the next four weeks.
The UK has experienced a warm few weeks and is set to continue enjoying temperatures between 18-25 degrees, it is tempting to open windows to cool down but people are being advised not to be tempted to do so.
The reason is actually to do with spiders. The eight-legged, eight-eyed creepy crawlers are expected to start attempted to make their way inside between mid-August until early October.
Spiders come into our houses to mate which is why they can be seen running across the room more often during September and October as male spiders go in search of a partner.
The females usually stay where they are and wait for the male to find them meaning if you see a spider charging across the room it is almost certainly a male.
In the winter they will go back to hiding out.
Even if you keep your windows closed, spiders manage to find a way in through cracks in windowsills, gaps in brickwork, or under doors.
They can squeeze through tiny gaps but one easy way to prevent an influx of spiders is to keep windows closed.
They mostly move around at night so a window left ajar to cool you down while you sleep presents a perfect opportunity for a spider to slip inside.
Though many suffer from arachnophobia, spiders are actually beneficial for your house.
They eat flies and other such insects, keeping your house free of them which in turn prevents diseases.
There’s also no species of spider in the UK that can harm you or your pets so they are perfectly safe if they do manage to find a way into your house.
However, it has been reported that the UK is expecting an influx of large false widows over the coming weeks and though they are not dangerous, they have quite a nip to them!
