The reported explosion at Manchester Arena on Monday night took place in the building's foyer, British Transport Police have indicated.
Greater Manchester Police had earlier confirmed that there had been 'a number of fatalities' following the incident, the cause of which is still unknown.
Witnesses had reported hearing a large explosion in the arena following a concert by US singer, Ariana Grande.
In a brief statement on their website, British Transport Police explained that their officers - along with other emergency services - had responded to reports of an explosion in the arena's foyer at 10.30pm.
Manchester Victoria Station, which is next to the concert venue, has been closed following the incident with all trains to and from it cancelled immediately.
