A teenager from Scotland has died after reportedly falling from a balcony in Ibiza

Emma Ramsay was staying in the San Antonio area of Ibiza when she is believed to have fallen from the sixth floor balcony of a hotel.

The 19-year-old from Scotland had shared pictures of herself enjoying her holiday just hours before the tragic accident.

Spanish authorities have confirmed the incident is being treated as an accident, via The Guardian.

Ibiza news outlet The Olive Press said that ambulances attended the scene at Hotel Vibra District, but were unable to save Ramsay’s life.

Her mother Barbara shared a tribute to her daughter on social media, calling her “an absolute angel” and describing her as “my best friend in the whole world”.

“I am going to miss you more than words will ever express. Rest in peace my sweet angel and sleep tight mummy loves you so so much,” she added in the touching statement.

Ramsay was a student at the University of Strathclyde in her third year of studying law.

A spokesperson for the university said: “Emma was a much-loved member of our student community and we are shocked and saddened by her death.

“Everyone at the university offers our deepest condolences to Emma’s family and all those affected by this terrible incident.”

She had formerly been a student of St John Ogilvie high school in Hamilton, and headteacher Lorna Lawson paid tribute.

“Emma was an incredibly kind, hard-working, bright and talented pupil who contributed a great deal to our school community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Emma’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Emma will be missed and will for ever hold a special place in our school.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
