The prison has been described as a “hellhole”.

A British dad has been jailed for 40 years after being allegedly caught with cocaine while living in Dubai.

Tattoo artist and barber Sam Dorman migrated from Glossop, Derbyshire, to Dubai in 2022 to start a business.

The 33-year-old was taken into custody following a police sting, which saw authorities find half a gram of cocaine in his possession, according to The Mirror.

Another 28g of the Class A substance was found at his home.

Dorman’s family are “understandably distraught” and they are now worried for him as he will serve his time at Al-Awir Central Prison, which is infamous for its brutality and poor conditions.

A source close to the family told The Sun: “He’s got a young daughter in the UK, so to be serving 40 years is really sad. He won’t be out till he’s in his 70s.

“The prison’s a hellhole, and Sam’s family are understandably distraught.

“When they spoke to him, it looked like he’d taken a battering. I just hope someone can help him.”

According to the source, Dorman “got in with the wrong crowd” since he moved to the UAE.

The source added: “Sam apparently sold coke to a customer who was pulled over and arrested by police.

“They took his phone and messaged Sam pretending to be the buyer and asked for more. Sam stupidly went and the police were waiting. At this point he was nabbed.”

The Foreign Office said: “We are supporting a British man detained in Dubai.”
