Bodycam footage has shown the moment a four-year-old boy fired a gun at police as they were arresting his father.

The incident happened at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Utah back in February.

Police were called to the restaurant after receiving reports that a worker was being threatened by a dad named Sadaat Johnson.

According to Sgt Melody Cutler, a spokeswoman for the Unified police department, Johnson had pulled a weapon on the drive-thru worker and demanded that his order be corrected.

When staff told him to pull into a waiting area while they amended his order, they called the police.

When police arrived, Johnson refused to cooperate with their orders for him to exit the vehicle and he had to be pulled from the car.

But as police were arresting Johnson, his son managed to get hold of his father’s weapon.

From the back seat of the car, he pointed the weapon at officers. His dad told him to shoot, but as he fired the gun an officer managed to swipe the weapon to the side.

The officer then shouted “kid” to inform his colleagues how old the shooter was, CNN reports.

In a press release following the incident, Salt Lake County Sheriff, Rosie Rivera, labelled it a “sad day for law enforcement and our community.”

“To have an adult think it is OK to encourage a four-year-old to pull a firearm and shoot at police illustrates how out of hand the campaign against police has gotten,” she said.

“This needs to stop, and we need to come together as a community to find solutions to the challenges we face in our neighborhoods.”
