Boxing legend George Foreman has died aged 76

One of the greatest of all time.

Known as Big George, Foreman was known for his ferocity in the ring.

Foreman won the Olympic gold in 1968 and claimed the heavyweight title twice, the second of which making him the oldest champion in history aged 45.

Foreman first lost his title to Muhammad Ali in their legendary Rumble in the Jungle back in 1974, however Foreman had a huge 76 wins in his career including 68 knockouts.

While Foreman was known for his fairly cruel persona in the ring, after retiring in 1997, he changed his image entirely when he put his name to the iconic George Foreman Grill and returned as one of the happiest and friendly faces in the world.

Interestingly, it was the grill that made him more money than boxing ever did.

His death was confirmed by his family who wrote: "Our hearts are broken. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose."

The statement added: "A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected - a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name - for his family."
