Boris Johnson’s dad has applied for French citizenship

Stanley Johnson, the blowhard father of Britain's Prime Minister, Boris Johnson says that he is currently applying for a French passport so that he can maintain his ties with the EU after Britain has left the union. According to the Reuters news agency, Johnson told RTL radio that he is pursuing his French citizenship because of the strong family ties he has in the country.

“If I understand it correctly, I am French. My mother was born in France, her mother was totally French as was her grandfather. So for me it is about reclaiming what I already have. And that makes me very happy,” said Johnson Senior, speaking in French.

“I will always be a European, that’s for sure. One cannot tell the British people: you are not Europeans. Having a tie with the European Union is important."

A French passport would ensure that Johnson can continue to move freely within the European Union after 1 January, 2021. Boris Johnson secured a trade deal with the European Union last week after months of drawn-out, torturous negotiations.

Britain officially leaves the European Union at 11pm Thursday night after a 48-year stint in the European trading bloc.
