Homenews

Historical civil rights activist Harriet Tubman is set to replace former US president Andrew Jackson on the new American $20 bill.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew has announced that famed anti-slavery campaigner Tubman would feature on a new range of $20s, which will be rolled out next year. There will also be changes to the $5 bill, in an attempt to depict other civil rights era leaders and prominent campaigners for equality. https://twitter.com/CommerceGov/status/722842267782787074 As one might expect, the choice has engendered criticism from fans of Jackson, who some argue helped create the Treasury Department and the American financial system. It is thought that Jackson will remain on the $20 bill, but on the reverse side. https://twitter.com/MaraWritesStuff/status/722836880694317056 https://twitter.com/emzanotti/status/722839663417827329 https://twitter.com/Gavin_McInnes/status/722831800322494464 https://twitter.com/RockyMntnMike/status/722841913917878272 Cover image c/o www.womenon20s.org
