Baby P’s mother released from prison after 13 years

She was released temporarily back in 2013 before breaching her parole

Baby P‘s mother Tracey Connelly has been released from prison after more than a decade behind bars.

Connelly, now 40, was jailed in 2009 for causing the death of her 17-month-old son, Peter – commonly referred to through the case as ‘Baby P’ – who tragically suffered more than 50 injuries, including fractured ribs and a broken back in 2007.

Connelly was initially released on licence back in 2013 following her fourth parole review, but was recalled to prison just two years later after breaching the conditions.

She was sent back into the Old Bailey after being found to have developed “intimate personal relationships” online inciting “inappropriate sexualised behaviour” at her accommodation, according to ITV. She spent a total of 13 years in jail across two terms.

As per to The Sun, the parole board has now approved her release once again and rejected an appeal against the decision by Justice Secretary Dominic Raab.

Raab said in a statement: “Tracey Connelly’s cruelty was pure evil, which is why I strongly opposed her release.

“The decision to let her out demonstrates why the Parole Board needs a fundamental overhaul, including a ministerial block, to protect the public and keep dangerous offenders off our streets.”

Connelly will once again be put under strict parole conditions and will be monitored closely. Sources also suggested that she was debating an intensive makeover to help her slip back into society and ease her rehabilitation, but ultimately decided against it.

Baby Peter suffered a slew of injuries despite being named on the at-risk register and having received at least 60 visits from social workers, police officers and other health professionals over the course eight months.

A series of reviews identified missed opportunities where they believe officials could have saved the toddler’s life if they had reacted properly to warning signs. Connelly’s boyfriend Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen were also convicted in relation to the case.
