The name of Baba Vanga has resurfaced once more, as we approach another new year. And some of her controversial warnings could apply to the year we’re about to enter, according to some.
Baba Vanga, real name Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova, was a Bulgarian attributed mystic and healer who claimed to have foreseen the future.
She was blind since her teen years, and she became widely known in parts of Eastern Europe during the Cold War for her alleged abilities of clairvoyance and precognition.
She remained popular after the fall of communism, including after her death in 1996.
One of her most debated warnings that according to some people apply for the year 2026 - some 30 years after her death - is that our society is reaching a point where it realises "it has gone too far."
It is assumed that the prediction is centred on technology and ethics, as according to her believers, the mystic forecast a year when experts and societies as a whole would collectively realise they had crossed moral and technological lines.
The realisation would come through growing global tension and scientific breakthroughs that would change human interactions, rather than it being a single catastrophic moment, believers say.
Interpretations of her visions lead followers to believe financial instability will continue worldwide into 2026, even though Sky History noted that while many of Baba Vanga's economic collapse predictions are associated with 2025.
The Bulgarian seer died in 1996 of breast cancer but is said by devotees to have left behind thousands of visions that stretch as far as the year 5079.
