Anonymous declare cyber war against Russia

Anonymous later claimed they had managed to take down the RT News website

Hacking group Anonymous has declared a “cyber war” against Russia after Vladimir Putin launched a full scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The group issued the warning to Russia on Thursday night.

They tweeted: “The Anonymous collective is officially in cyber war against the Russian government.”

They followed this with a tweet saying they had managed to take down the website of “Russian propaganda station RT News.” However it appears that the site is now back up and running.

According to the Mail, Russia launched its own cyber attack on Ukraine shortly before its invasion of the country.

The country’s banks and government were reportedly targeted.

On another of its accounts, Anonymous said they were “involved in operations against the Russian Federation.”

The group continued: “While this account cannot claim to speak for the whole of the Anonymous collective, we can in fact report the truths of Anonymous’ collective actions against the Russian Federation.”

Anonymous implored its followers to put themselves “in the shoes of the Ukrainians being bombed right now.”

One person wrote: “THANK YOU! Now, work on draining their finances.”

Another said: “You are awesome, thanks.”

A third wrote: “THANK YOU! I love you! The most beautiful thing EVER…”

Anonymous have previously targeted groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and Islamic extremists and last year warned Elon Musk that they planned to target him because he holds too much power over the cryptocurrency market.
