Anne heche dies aged 53

She had been temporarily on life support

Actor Anne Heche has died at the age of 53, a week after she was involved in a horror car crash.

Her friend Nancy Davis confirmed her passing on Instagram.

She wrote: “Heaven has a new Angel. My loving, kind, fun, endearing and beautiful friend @anneheche went to heaven. I will miss her terribly and cherish all the beautiful memories we have shared.

“Anne was always the kindest, most thoughtful person who always brought out the best in me. She was so supportive with anything she could do to help @racetoerasems and would always say yes when she knew she could contribute something with her time, talent and creative genius to help find a cure for MS . My heart is broken.”

On August 5, Heche crashed her car into a house in Los Angeles. She lost consciousness shortly after being cut free from the wreckage, and on August 8 her representatives said she had slipped into a coma.

On Friday, her family had issued a statement saying the actor was being temporarily kept on life support and was not expected to survive.

“Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive,” the statement read.

“It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.”

The statement added: “Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit.

“More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work – especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. “She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”

Police said on Friday that preliminary blood tests had revealed the presence of drugs in her system – but extra testing was needed to eliminate any substances given to her in hospital.

Heche rose to prominence in the 1990s and went on to feature in films including Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids and the 1998 Psycho remake. She also appeared on the 2020 series of Dancing with the Stars in the US and is also the former partner of US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Heche leaves behind two sons.
