The incident happened on the French side of the tunnel.

A collision between a bus and a train on the French side of the Channel Tunnel has left 19 people injured.

As per reports in France, a minibus transporting passengers tipped onto its side at the entrance to the tunnel on a level crossing before hitting a freight train.

However, Le Monde reported that the train was stationary, although a number of outlets in France say the bus was "hit by the train".

The prefecture of Pas-de-Calais said that the incident happened at around 8pm local time (7pm UK) on Thursday evening.

It added that 19 people have been injured, the driver and 18 passengers.

Le Figaro reported that the passengers are heavy goods vehicle drivers getting ready to get on a LeShuttle train.

Among the injured, five are in a "critical condition", however, "will surely be downgraded to a 'relatively critical' condition".

None of them are in a life-threatening condition.

Emergency services, including a specialist helicopter and border force police attended the scene.

A press conference is set to be held by the subprefecture of Calais around 10.30pm local time (9.30pm UK time) at the Eurotunnel headquarters in Coquelles.
