The Chainsmokers dedicate Billboard Music Award to Avicii

The American DJs paid tribute to the Swedish artist, who tragically died this year aged 28.

Presenting for Billboard Hot 100 Song, The Chainsmokers and singer Halsey honoured the the dance music star Avicii with an emotional introduction to the award.

Andrew Taggart, one half of The Chainsmokers, said: “His passing was a great loss for the music world and for us.

“He was an artist who inspired so many in so many ways and simply put he meant so much to us and so many in the EDM community.”

Halsey continued: “Everyone who worked with him would agree he was such a joy and it makes this tragedy all the more painful.

“And it’s a reminder to all of us to be there and to support and love all of our friends and family members who may be struggling with mental health issues.”

Later whilst accepting the award for dance/electronic artist Taggart continued to honour the DJ (born Tim Bergling) known for his hits ‘Levels’ and ‘Wake Me Up’.

“I know everyone that was nominated for this award was massively influenced by him. He is somebody who made us believe this was a realistic career, something we could do with our lives, inspired all of us, influenced our music, influenced pop music, music in general and he will be missed,” Taggart added.

“I hope you’re somewhere and I hope you found peace. We love you.”
