When you’re facing a tough situation in life, it’s very likely that you’ll seek and be offered some advice from friends or colleagues.

But why listen to them when you’ve got thousands of singles to listen to? With this in mind, we’ve decided to draw up an eclectic list of songs that should be able to get you through most scenarios in life.

The lesson: I’ve previously stated that this track is the best single of the last decade, but very few lyrics sum up the brazen, ballsy and carefree attitude of being young quite like this one from James Murphy.

The lyrics: In a song that’s brimming with nuggets of wisdom, we’ve opted for: “Don’t waste your time on jealousy/Sometimes you’re ahead/Sometimes you’re behind/The race is long and in the end, it’s only with yourself”.
