Conor McGregor may not have said much in New York, but really, he said a lot.
After running away from TMZ reporter Adam Glyn in New York, Conor McGregor eventually answered some of his questions.
The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion spoke about Jose Aldo’s victory at UFC Calgary. McGregor expressed his delight seeing his former foe getting back in the win column. Considering everything Aldo had gone through lately, McGregor admitted to being ‘truly happy’ for him.
He also spoke about his UFC return. The who is simple. It’s obvious to a blind man that he will challenge for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lightweight strap in his next fight. As for the when and where… that’s a little more complicated.
Location, location, location
There are six UFC pay-per-views left in 2018. UFC 227 is this weekend, so that can be ruled out as a potential home for the next lightweight title fight. The fight is too big to be held in Texas or Toronto, so UFC 228 and UFC 231 can be crossed off the list too. That just leaves UFC 229 in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena on October 6, UFC 230 in New York’s Madison Square Garden on November 3 and UFC 232, the end of year event in the T-Mobile on December 29.
McGregor confirmed in his brief chat with Glyn in New York that he is ‘very close’ to securing a return. He added that he ‘believed’ he would make his comeback in 2018. Another very noteworthy comment was about the location of the fight.
“I’d love to fight in the Garden again, but I believe this one is in Las Vegas.”
And then there were two. That just leaves UFC 230 and UFC 232. However, according to Twitter’s FrontRowBrian, McGregor’s lawyer let the cat out of the bag on Instagram. Graham Kenny,
The Irish solicitor supposedly uploaded a screenshot of a plane ticket to Las Vegas for October 5, with a return date to London Gatwick on October 10 along with the caption: “It’s on.”

It’s by no means confirmation, but it’s certainly worth noting. Especially considering the rumblings are that the fight is being targeted for UFC 230.
