VIDEO: Grandad with Alzheimer’s recognises his niece returning from Australia for Christmas

Dealing with Alzheimer's is never easy, but it's moments like this that give you hope.

JOE reader Derek Webb from County Wexford in Ireland got in contact with a homecoming video today and it really moved us. We'll let Derek tell the story.

"This is a short video clip of my niece, Charlotte, dressed as Santa, making a surprise visit home from Oz for this Christmas. "She was and still is dad's favourite, Dad might have Alzheimer's but he will never forget his first Grandchild even though he hasn't seen her for 2 years. "We flew her in as his Christmas present, I am sure he'll agree it beats a pair of socks and aftershave any day. He was still crying an hour later. This is what Christmas is all about."
