Households across the UK are being encouraged to try a simple yet effective trick as the weather turns cooler and condensation starts to creep onto your windows.
Condensation, which occurs when warm air comes in contact with cold surfaces, can create damp droplets and form mould in difficult to clean areas.
One prominent spot where you might have noticed this, your windows.
The trick? Placing a bowl of salt at your windowsills to prevent humidity from condensing in unwanted spaces.
Salt absorbs moisture and is an especially inexpensive trick to dehumidify small areas around your home.
Great Places, the giant housing provider in the UK, recommends leaving small bowls of salt near your windows to prevent mould from appearing or growing any further.
However, this simple household trick is best where focused in a small area, such as condensation on windows.
This is not a recommended solution for greater humidity problems, as a bowl of salt can only go so far.
General humidity and mould issues caused by dampness should be treated professionally or with adequate removal products.
To prevent from building up greater problems from mould and dampness, it is recommended that you air out your household, and use a dehumidifier if need be.
Persistent wetness, recurring condensation, black mould and musty smells can be signs or greater damages that must be investigated.
The bowl of salt by the window trick is worth trying out as we officially enter the new season tomorrow!
