Big travel warning for Newcastle Airport passengers

No trains will run between the airport and South Gosforth while work is carried out on the tracks, stations and cabling, the Mirror reported.

Replacement bus services will be in place throughout, and trains will run elsewhere on the Metro network, although the operator has warned that revised timetables may be in place.

When the Newcastle Airport Metro closure starts and ends

The closure runs from 5am on Saturday 15 August until 11.59pm on Sunday 23 August, meaning normal services resume on Monday 24 August.

Outside the closure, Metro services from the airport run from about 5.30am, 6.20am on Sundays, until midnight every day.

"Your journey will take longer, so please plan ahead and leave extra time for travelling."

The advice applies for the full nine days. The engineering work follows a recent revamp of the airport itself, including a refurbished departures area with 450 new seats, part of a plan to grow passenger numbers to eight million by 2035 and nine million by 2040.

It is not the only disruption for UK air passengers this summer, after a fuel shortage at Gatwick threatened flights.
