It's probably not the health advice you were expecting today.
Erectile dysfunction isn't always just about sex. In some cases, it can actually be one of the earliest signs of heart disease, and it can appear years before any other symptoms.1,2
That's the message behind 'Listen to Jordic', a new music video from JOE. It's equal parts ridiculous, equal parts genuinely important.
Performed by the gloriously over-the-top viking folk hero Jordic, the tune tackles one of men's most awkward conversations,3 before delivering a message that could make people think twice about ignoring erectile dysfunction's potential hidden significance.
Doctors know that erectile dysfunction can sometimes be an early indicator of cardiovascular disease because it can result from changes in blood vessel walls that affect blood flow throughout the body.4,5 Erection difficulties can appear 3 to 5 years before a cardiovascular event like a stroke or heart attack.2 Despite that, most men aren't aware there is a link, and many never speak to a doctor about it.3
Here are those all-important stats you need to know:
The video doesn't shy away from the subject either, with lyrics including:
"When I'm low, can't grow,
Don't doubt, find out
If this problem down below
Is telling you something you need to know."Watch the video below
The aim of Jordic is simple: make people laugh, get them talking, and encourage anyone experiencing erectile dysfunction to view it as a possible health signal rather than something to get red-faced about.
After watching the video, viewers can also take a quick online quiz here to help understand whether their symptoms could be linked to cardiovascular risk and whether it's worth speaking to a GP.
