Lana Rhoades claims she has ‘proof’ we’re living in a simulation

If you go down a late-night YouTube rabbit hole, past the far-right misinformation, Vine compilations and mukbang videos, you'll probably come across the simulation theory of the universe. While it sounds a bit bonkers, the theory itself is way weirder than you could imagine. Though it has caught the interest of some public figures as an idea worth exploring, among them the likes of Neil deGrasse Tyson. You can add to that esteemed list former adult star Lana Rhoades. Now you might think, yeah why not? The internet is full of people chiming in on things they're not experts on. That's basically the entirety of Reddit. So let's hear Lana's theory. In a post to TikTok, she argues that one of the best pieces of proof we have that we're living in a simulation is... astrology. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0KHiiTtt4w She theorises that if astrology is true (debatable), then it's proof that the creator of the universe basically just phoned it in when they were giving everyone personalities. She says in the post:

If astrology is real, I think it's proof that we're living in a simulation. I personally find astrology and zodiacs to be extremely accurate, solely based off my own experience. A lot of people will agree, if you're a Virgo you have Virgo personality traits. If you're a Libra you have Libra personality traits. If you don't believe in astrology then just ignore this, but people who do, this might make sense to you. It kind of seems like the designer or creator of this simulation got a little bit lazy and didn't want to have to design and individual personality for each person. So they came up with the coding or the system, if you're born in this month or this month you get this personality. I don't know, it seems a little sus to me

And if that weren't enough, Lana says she got further evidence of the theory when she was pregnant. Speaking on a recent podcast episode of 3 Girls 1 Kitchen, she said:

You're telling someone who literally went to a psychic that told them that they were pregnant and then they went home and they were pregnant. She said that me or someone very close to me was about to be pregnant and that it would bring a lot of joy into my life. What is the coincidence? Also it wasn't even just that; I had told you guys prior that my TikTok tarot card readings were saying I was pregnant as well all month when I was like 'there's just no way.'

Now, you may or may not believe in the computer simulation theory, but the theory is gaining traction in certain aspects of the community. One of the first proponents on the potential truth of the theory is Oxford philosopher Nick Bostrom, who said that one of these three possibilities has to be true:

1. All intelligent civilisations in the universe go extinct before they develop the technological ability to create simulated realities
2. If any civilisations do reach this phase of technological prowess, none of them will bother to run simulations
3. Advanced civilisations would have the ability to create many, many simulations, and that means there are more simulated worlds than 'real' ones.

The philosopher says we can't actually be sure which of these is true, but they're all possible, and that option three could in fact be the most likely. It has since been picked up in various forms of popular media and has been expounded by the likes of Elon Musk, but don't let that put you off. So there you have it: Lana Rhoades is absolutely convinced we're all basically living in a game of The Sims.
