A family has been criticised after choosing to take their son to Hooters to celebrate his fifth birthday.

Mum Darby shared a clip on TikTok of her son at Hooters on his fifth birthday. Unsurprisingly, not everyone was impressed with the clip, with many understandably thinking it was an 'inappropriate' place to take a child.

In the video, the Hooters staff can be seen singing a happy birthday song to the boy.

"Now hold these [two foil plates], and you're gonna flap them while we sing because these are your wings, okay?," says one waitress.

Meanwhile another waitress gets the attention of the rest of the restaurant, encouraging the customers to cheer the five-year-old on.

Several took issue with the clip, and criticised the parents for taking the five-year-old to the restaurant, which is famous for waitresses wearing signature orange hot pants and white vests.

One person commented: "Who brings a child to Hooters? I’m not American, and I really don’t understand the whole Hooters thing."

While another said: "Why did they go here though?"

And a third added: "Why would they bring him there, at that age, for his bday?!"

There were some who didn't see any issue with the boy being at the bar, pointing out that they regularly see children in Hooters.

One person wrote: "It's still a restaurant/almost sports bar. I've seen plenty of ppl bring their kids there to eat."

And a third said: "This is so adorable. A memory he will never forget." Hooters is an American chain, and currently only has one restaurant in the UK, located in Nottingham. Whilst there are plans to open another branch in Manchester, the proposal has sparked backlash from those who think the chain is degrading to women because of the way the waitresses dress. The plans are still going ahead to open the Salford Quays-based restaurant though.

The restaurant and bar will open from 9am to 11.30pm seven days a week. No children unaccompanied by adults will be allowed on the premises at any time, meanwhile there will be no more than double the number of seats currently available to customers and no external speakers.
