The internet made him a millionaire

Kay, 26, became an internet favourite last summer after a video showed him dancing in an Ibiza nightclub with his distinctive bowl cut and chunky chain. A random night out has since turned into a surprisingly lucrative career, with Kay claiming he is now earning around £2 million a year.

Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous, he revealed that the viral moment has led to brand deals, a £1 million insurance policy on his famous hair and an appearance on Celebrity SAS next year.

Before becoming known as the Ibiza Final Boss, Kay was working in groundwork on Newcastle’s roads. Once the clip took off, however, his life changed very quickly.

He admitted that he initially spent some of his newfound money in fairly predictable fashion, including splashing out on a private jet to take his friends back to Ibiza and buying a £55,000 Range Rover.

Despite the early spending spree, Kay says he has since become more sensible with the money, with one of his biggest purchases being a house in Newcastle.

He credits something he cannot quite define, reckoning his “aura” made him famous and claiming the same pull as Donald Trump.

"My life changed upside down overnight. I was just the average Joe. I worked on the roads doing groundwork. It was just get up, go to work, finish work, go to the gym, grab a sunbed. Just normal life."

“If someone had said to me a year ago, ‘This time next year you'll be a millionaire' I'd have said, ‘Nah. No way,'” he said. “It was God's plan, 100 per cent.” A recent return to the island proved it had not worn off: “I had people running towards me for pictures.”

Celebrity SAS will drop him into the same machine as the Love Island finale crowd, and the internet is not sentimental: plenty of viral stories do not survive a second year. For now, the bowl cut is insured for a million.
